QuantConnect is first among the coded tools, with documented fills and data that still includes delisted stocks back to 1998. Backtoast is first if you want to describe the strategy in plain language and get paid from real trading when it passes.

1Backtoast

You pay $99 for two full tests of your own strategy, and a pass is an offer of 30% of the profit Backtoast makes trading it with its own money.

2QuantConnect

The free tier backtests without a cap. It covers stocks, options, futures, forex and crypto, and you write the strategy in Python or C#. Mia, QuantConnect's AI agent, can write the code, run the backtest and fix what breaks. Walk-forward is something you build yourself, and there is no built-in Monte Carlo. Funds use it, and the community is large.

Data and fills

US stocks come at tick, second, minute, hour and daily resolution for about 27,500 securities. Equity options start in 2012, futures in 2009, forex in 2007 and crypto in 2015. A backtest assumes zero slippage by default, and the built-in models fill every order in full, so you add a slippage model, such as the built-in volume-share one, and write your own fill model if you want partial fills. Fees follow the brokerage model you pick, and Interactive Brokers is the default.

Pricing

The free plan includes the data and one backtest node, and it can't paper trade or trade live. Live trading needs a paid seat and a live node from $24 a month, and it connects to Interactive Brokers, Schwab, TradeStation, Alpaca, Tradier, Coinbase, Binance and others. Team seats are $24 a month and Trading Firm seats are $48, and backtest nodes run up to $768 a month for the biggest machine.
